Honored & Humbled: Being Named One of Modern Luxury Hawaii’s “Modern Women 2024”

There are moments in life that feel surreal—and being named one of Modern Luxury Hawaii’s “Modern Women 2024” was one of those moments for me. When I first moved to Hawai‘i after 30 years in Japan, I had no idea how my path would unfold. I only knew I wanted to do meaningful work, create beautiful food, and connect with people through compassion, culture, and creativity. To now be recognized in the OCT/NOV issue of a magazine that celebrates women shaping the islands is an incredible honor.

What makes this recognition especially meaningful is knowing it’s not just about accolades—it’s about impact. The feature shines a light on women who are using their voice, passion, and purpose to inspire change, uplift others, and reimagine what leadership looks like in today’s world. To be among them is both humbling and energizing.

This honor is a tribute not just to my work as a vegan chef and cookbook author, but to the many layers of my journey—from modeling and running a dining bar in Japan to writing three cookbooks here in Hawai‘i that reflect my deep respect for plant-based living, Japanese tradition, and the spirit of Aloha. It’s also a nod to every woman out there carving a path that’s uniquely her own.

Being part of this year’s “Modern Women” reminds me that no matter where we start, we all have the ability to evolve, lead with kindness, and spark change in our communities. I’m endlessly grateful to Modern Luxury Hawaii for this spotlight, and to all of you who continue to support and uplift my journey.
