The holidays are here, and the three-day Hawai‘i Holiday Craft & Gift Fair at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall (Dec. 19-21) is the perfect place to find unique, thoughtful, plant-based treats. Food is always at the top of my gift-giving list, and there’s something extra special about discovering local, hard-to-find treats. This year, several vendors will be flying in from Hawaii island.
Among them is Atebara Chips ($12.50, 7 ounces or $22.50, 16 ounces), makers of my favorite snack of the year. Their “Local Kine” flavors in ginger & garlic sweet potato, sweet onion taro, and adobo taro, offer everything from earthy depth to natural sweetness. Each chip is perfectly crispy and crunchy, made with fresh Hawaiian taro, canola oil, and salt, with no preservatives or artificial flavors. Its classic potato chips, sweet potato chips, and the taro & sweet potato mixed chips deliver distinctly Hawaiian flavors and are perfect for curating a special snack basket. Follow @atebarachips
At the Sun Chong Company booth, you’ll find its signature Swedish BUBS sour foam candies, known for their chewy-meets-marshmallow-y texture and playful shapes like the iconic skull. Completely vegan and free from gelatin, gluten, palm oil, and artificial dyes, BUBS was named one of TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2025. The sour lemon raspberry dizzy skulls ($15, 8 ounces) are a must-try and are included in the mini BUBS mix ($8, 4 ounces) along with banana, tutti frutti, and wild strawberry–pomegranate candies. Ohana Style Snack Co. has candy popcorn ($6, 2.5 oounces) popped in aromatic coconut oil, plus a Movie-Mix furikake popcorn with veggie sticks ($12) that is addictive. Fruit lovers will enjoy its vibrant dried fruit and classic crack seed mix All Dried Up ($12/114 g), featuring sun-dried lemon, jabong, plum, ume, cranberries, mango, cherries, lemon dust, and li hing powder. Don’t miss Ohana Style Snack Company’s giant 100% fruit roll-ups ($12) in cranberry apple peach, cranberry apple with plum mui, and guava apple with plum mui- tropical, tangy, and irresistibly savory. Follow @ohanastylesnackco
And of course, no Hawaiian gift basket is complete without Diamond Head Candy Company’s macadamia nuts ($9 one bag, or $25, three bags), available in roasted salted or hot and spicy. These premium nuts are luxurious yet affordable- ideal for anyone on your naughty or nice list. Follow @diamondheadcandyco
